New prior provincial elected for the Province of Slovakia
SLOVAKIA — The Provincial Chapter of the Province of Slovakia, on January 26, 2026, elected fr. Alan Ján Dely, OP, as their new Prior Provincial. he election was promptly confirmed the same day by the Master of the Order, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner, OP.
Fr. Alan was born in Vranov nad Top?ou, Slovakia, in 1981. Before entering the Order of Preachers, he earned a PhD in Mathematical Physics from Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in 2009. He joined the Order the following year and was ordained a priest in 2016 after completing his theological studies in Badín.
Following his ordination, he was appointed Promoter of the Rosary for the Slovak Province. In 2021, fr. Alan obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. Upon returning, he resumed his duties as Rosary Promoter and, in 2022, began his doctoral studies in dogmatic theology at the same university.
The Dominican Province of Slovakia, established in 2001, currently consists of 50 brothers. Forty of the province’s members serve across five convents—located in Košice, Bratislava, Žilina, Zvolen, and Dunajská Lužná—while the remaining ten friars serve abroad.
We extend our fraternal congratulations to fr. Alan upon his election as Prior Provincial, and we assure him of our prayers as he begins this new ministry. May the Lord grant him wisdom, humility and zeal for the Gospel as he leads the brothers of the Dominican Province of Slovakia in the service of the Holy Preaching.
