New Procurator General appointed for the Order
ROME — The Master of the Order of Preachers, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, has appointed fr. Krzysztof Kocjan, OP, of the Province of Poland, Procurator General of the Order, effective January 5, 2026. Fr. Krzysztof succeeds fr. Benjamin Earl, OP, who has served as Procurator General since 2016.
The Procurator General represents the Order of Preachers before the Holy See, particularly in matters requiring canonical petitions, dispensations, and administrative coordination on behalf of the Order and individual friars.
Reflecting on his new responsibility, fr. Krzysztof emphasized its pastoral and ecclesial dimension. “This role means that I will be the one who asks for grace from the Holy See for the Order and for a particular brother,” fr. Krzysztof. “I intend to be open to assisting the brothers in many ways in this role.”
Born on August 15, 1975, in Katowice, Poland, fr. Krzysztof entered the Order of Preachers in 2002. He made his solemn profession in 2007 and was ordained to the presbyterate on May 24, 2008. He is a member of the Province of Poland.
Fr. Krzysztof brings broad academic formation to his new office. Before entering the Order, he studied medicine at the Medical University of Silesia and psychology at the University of Silesia. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Dominican College of Philosophy and Theology in Warsaw and Kraków, later earning a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Warsaw. From 2015 to 2021, he pursued studies in canon law at Cardinal Stefan Wyszy?ski University in Warsaw.
Much of fr. Krzysztof’s priestly ministry has been spent in Vitebsk, Belarus, where he served from 2008 to 2022. During that time, he was pastor of the parish, superior and syndic of the Dominican community, and director of the prenovitiate for brothers from Belarus. He also served as a judge of the Diocesan Court of Vitebsk. Since 2022, he has been assigned to St. Hyacinth’s Convent in Warsaw, where he has served as Director of the Mission Secretariat of the Province and as Legal Secretary.
By appointing fr. Krzysztof, the Master of the Order has entrusted him with a key role in the life and governance of the worldwide Dominican family, at the service of the friars and in continued close collaboration with the Holy See.
