New Vice-Provincial of Southern Africa
On 30 January 2024, in EmaPhethelweni Priory in South Africa, the friars gathered in Chapter elected Brother Clement Mweni, OP, as Vice-Provincial of the Vice-Provincial of Southern Africa for the 2024-2028 term. The election was confirmed by the Master of the Order, Brother Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP. . Br. Clement accepted and made his profession of faith on the evening of the same day.
Born in Mansa (Zambia) on 28 December 1984, Brother Clement Mweni, OP, after completing his primary education in Mabo (1992-1998) while secondary education (1999-2003), in the District of Kalulushi, Copperbelt Province in Zambia, then, he decided to join the Order in 2007 and made his first profession on 8th September 2009 in Cotonou, Benin Republic. After completing his undergraduate studies in philosophy (2010-2012) and theology (2013-2016) at the Intercongregational Scholasticate in Cedara (Petermarisburg), South Africa, he was ordained as priest on 30 July 2016 in his home town of Mansa, Zambia. At the same time he was undertaking studies in education at the University of South Africa (UNISA), he was successively entrusted with the duties of Promoter of Vocations and Dominican Youth (2016); In 2017, he was sent on mission to be the chaplain to the Dominican sisters in Zimbabwe, Parish Priest of Saint Dominic’s Parish and Bronville parish (2019 to date); Responsible for various sectors in the Diocese of Kroonstad in South Africa: Consultant (2021 to present); Chaplain in charge of Religious Brothers and Sisters (2022); Chaplain in charge of Family Pastoral Care (2023). Elected on 30 January 2024, Brother Clement, who is barely 39 years old, was confirmed by the Master of the Order in the hours that followed and made his profession of faith on the evening of the same day.
